Easy Sinangag Recipe
Let’s get cooking! Sinangag (fried rice) is a classic Filipino dish that makes use of leftover rice and pantry staples.
Ingredients:
- 3 cups leftover rice (preferably a day old)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional add-ons: diced vegetables, eggs, leftover meat, or canned tuna
Instructions:
- Prep the Rice: Break up clumps of leftover rice with a fork to make frying easier.
- Heat the Oil: In a large pan or wok, heat the cooking oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until golden brown and fragrant.
- Add the Rice: Toss in the rice and stir to mix with the garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Season It: Add a dash of salt and pepper. For extra flavor, drizzle soy sauce and mix well.
- Customize Your Fried Rice: Add diced vegetables, leftover meat, or a beaten egg for a hearty twist. Stir until everything is heated through.
- Serve Hot: Plate your fried rice and enjoy it as is or with your favorite ulam (viand).
Why Sinangag is Perfect During ECQ
- Minimizes Waste: Uses up leftover rice and whatever ingredients you have on hand.
- Budget-Friendly: Affordable ingredients make it a go-to dish.
