Dance To Express; Not To Impress. Dance From The Soul; Not Just From The Choreography.

In this video blog, Jonathan “Tansyong” Orbuda shares his feeling when he performed on stage in a dance battle. “It was not just a dance, it was a medium for me to time-travel back to my younger days” he said.

It has been many years guys na di na ako sumayaw. As far as I remember, the last time that I compete in a dance battle was way-back in my college days. Indeed, I am already 30 years old now, so basically that was almost 10 years ago. But the burning passion is still in my soul specially ng sumali ako sa nakaraang STOMP Dance battle November 19, 2017 sa The Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan.

Undeniably, tumanda na nga ako pero the feeling when I heard the shout of the massive audience, the lights, the smoke and the beat of the music – it seemed that It was not a competition to me. Hence, It was like a time travel back to my younger days, those moments when I simultaneously went to school and accept dancing tutorial for an extra cash (for my allowance). I really love dancing, but when I entered to the real world – I just realized that my passion in dancing cannot subsidy my expenses .And so, I let go my passion and continue working as to what is really requisite in survival.

However, no matter how you let go and set aside your passion, it is already grass-rooted deep within – whenever an opportunity comes, it will just come out naturally. Honestly, nung sumayaw ako nito , never ko inisip na mananalo ako, ang tanging gusto ko lang maramdaman ko ulit ang feeling na nararamdaman ko 10 years ago.

With that being said, it just happened.  I savoured every beat of the music, I enjoyed the two minutes dance routine and I traveled back to where I started – a Young Jonathan Orbuda who was dreaming originally to be a professional dancer.
“How I wish, my past Grandparents witness me how I enjoyed what I did.”

“I am pretty sure, they’re proud of me”.

Sad part; when the music ended, it was time for me to go back to the reality. I have to go back to my 30 years old persona and leave my college memories in the history. Yet when the time I become older, I’ll surely enjoy reminiscing it while sitting on my rocking chair.
