🥣 Chaolong - Palawan’s Best Vietnamese Soup.

It is highly important to give emphasis that chaolong is not for elite people however it fits the budget –minded individuals who are badly hungry. LOL. Truly it was spectacular food for me , being a first timer in PALAWAN. My Vacation was not complete without Chaolong
Discovering the Delight of Chaolong

Palawan, known for its pristine beaches and stunning landscapes, also boasts a unique culinary experience that every visitor must try. One standout dish is Chaolong, a Vietnamese-inspired noodle soup that has become one of Palawan's best foods. This delightful soup, featuring rice noodles as the main ingredient, comes in various flavors to suit your palate. Among these, the beef stew Chaolong is a must-try and a best-seller that I personally recommend.

A Memorable Breakfast in Palawan

On my second day in Palawan, June 5, 2013, my friends and I set out early in the morning in search of a breakfast spot. As we explored the streets, we stumbled upon Bona's Chaolong, conveniently located at Manalo Extension, Puerto Princesa. This small, unassuming eatery was right in front of our accommodation area, making it an easy choice for our morning meal.

The First Encounter with Chaolong

Walking into Bona's Chaolong, I had no prior experience with or knowledge of the dish. However, the sight of other customers enjoying their meals was enough to pique my interest. I quickly placed my order at the counter, eager to try this unfamiliar dish.

When my Chaolong arrived, it looked incredibly appetizing. The soup had a rich red-orange color, thanks to the annatto (atsuete) used in the broth. Generous pieces of beef stew adorned the top of the bowl, making it even more inviting. Alongside the soup, a separate plate held fresh bean sprouts, calamansi, eucalyptus leaves, and chili, allowing for customization to suit individual tastes.

The Flavor Explosion

Taking my first sip, I was immediately struck by the authentic Vietnamese Pho flavor of the broth. The combination of sweet and savory notes from the beef stew, enhanced by the optional addition of chili, created a harmonious balance that was simply delightful. Each bite of the tender beef, coupled with the freshness of the bean sprouts and the zing of calamansi, elevated the dish to new heights.

What made the experience even better was the affordability of the meal. For only P 75.00, I enjoyed a hearty bowl of Chaolong paired with buttered foot-long bread. This combination provided a satisfying and filling breakfast that didn’t break the bank.

A Dish for Everyone

It's important to highlight that Chaolong is not a dish reserved for the elite. Instead, it caters to budget-minded individuals who crave a delicious and hearty meal. Whether you're a first-timer in Palawan or a seasoned visitor, Chaolong offers a taste of local flavor that is both affordable and unforgettable.

Conclusion

My vacation in Palawan would not have been complete without experiencing the unique and flavorful delight of Chaolong. This Vietnamese-inspired soup, with its rich broth, tender beef, and fresh accompaniments, left a lasting impression on me. If you ever find yourself in Palawan, make sure to visit Bona's Chaolong and savor a bowl of this spectacular dish. It's a culinary adventure that promises to rock your soul with its sweet, spicy, and utterly delicious flavors.
